Dear Friends in Christ,

Amidst the chaos and great uncertainty in our country and world, I admit that I am struggling daily to remember and live what I have learned over the years as a follower of the teachings of Jesus. I notice that I can easily feel anxious, fearful and helpless. I find myself searching for an understanding of what is happening and find the whole situation very surreal. That is why it is so important to me to set aside time for just being with God.

When I awoke this morning, I went about my daily routine of meditation and prayer. As I prayed for each member of our pastoral charge, I realized how much I miss everyone, and decided I would write down a few things I miss from our Sunday gatherings.

I miss going into the church and hearing all the things that happened to everyone during the week.

I miss hearing the chatter and excitement over upcoming events.

I miss some of your corny jokes.

I miss when Svetlana (not realizing that there are 4 verses) plays three verses of a hymn while the congregation keeps going.

I miss listening to the choir whisper behind me during my reflection.

I miss people nodding their heads in agreement when they like my reflection.

I miss people who yawn and let me know I am rambling on too long. (Some have been known to fall asleep)

I miss having a choir member remind to stand for the offering when I get lost in the music.

I miss when we go back and forth for hours deciding if we should cancel in bad weather.

I miss when Fallowfield has coffee hour and sends me off to Merivale with a plate of food for the road.

I miss our spirit of generosity to those who are not as fortunate as we are.

I miss the special music provided by the choir that uplifts our hearts and souls.

I miss standing at the back of the church when the service is over watching you all visit with each other as if you were long lost relatives.

In other words, I miss everyone and want you to know that I am holding our pastoral charge in prayer and wishing everyone health and well-being.

How blessed we are to know that our congregations are grounded in love. Let us continue to trust that the Spirit of God is with us now and always

Genesis 31:49

“May the Lord keep watch between you and me when we are away from each other”.

Peace and Grace,

Rev. Sandra
